Yesterday, Ireland internationals Megan Connolly and Hayley Nolan both celebrated their 23rd birthday, so we wondered if there were any other internationals who were born on the same day?
After examining our records, we found two other pairs of players who share a birthday
On Wednesday, 17th May 1978, midfielder Ciara Grant was born in Waterford, and on the same day, goalkeeper Paddy Kenny was born in Halifax. Grant played more than 100 times for her country, scoring 11 goals. Kenny made his debut for Ireland in 2004, qualifying through both his Irish-born parents. He went on to earn six more caps, before retiring from international football in 2007 to resolve some personal issues.
Nine years later, on Sunday, 29th November 1987, Stephen O'Halloran was born in Cobh, the same day that David McGoldrick was born in Nottingham. O'Halloran was given his debut in May 2007 by Steve Staunton, having spent the 2006/07 season on loan at Wycombe Wanderers. A year later, he was named U21 player of the year in the FAI awards. McGoldrick had been adopted, and , after contacting his birth mother, discovered he qualified for the national side through her father, who was born in Ireland.
