Most goals against single opposition

Former Republic of Ireland striker John Aldridge celebrated his 59th birthday recently, and (as we do with many former internationals) we posted the history of his Irish international caps and goals on twitter and facebook
One of our facebook followers noticed that he had scored eight goals against Latvia, and wondered was this a record for Irish players - i.e. had any player scored more goals against single opposition over the course of his career?

Usually when there's a question related to Irish goalscoring records, the answer is Robbie Keane, but not so in this case. The Irish record caps holder and goal scorer found the back of the net five times against three different countries - Georgia, Faroe Islands and Gibraltar - and is joined by Don Givens who also notched five goals against Turkey in three games, including four in one game.

This leaves Aldridge's eight goals in four games against Latvia in as the current holder of this record.
