On This Day....

We're launching a new "On This Day" feature on Irish Abroad today. On our facebook and twitter accounts, we're going to feature wins from Irish footballing history on their anniversary.
Before this launches later today, we've looked into the records of Irish games on individual dates to see what date has the most wins, draws and losses for the Boys in Green.

Wins
The Republic of Ireland has recorded five wins on four separate days - October 11th, November 15th and 16th and September 7th. Of these, November 16th can be considered the "winningest" as the five victories came from seven games, with one loss and one draw added to the wins over Turkey(1966), Malta(1983), Northern Ireland(1994), Croatia(2004) and Bosnia(2015). September 7th also has five wins from seven games, but there's also been two losses on that date.

Draws
Games have finished all square on three different days, October 14th, May 23rd and October 17th. These four draws came from seven, seven and six games respectively.

Losses
Games scheduled on May 30th are the ones Ireland fans should fear the most. The national side has lost five of the six games played at the end of May - Spain(1948), Austria(1971), Trinidad & Tobago(1982), USA(1992), and Scotland(2000) - with the only victory on that date coming against Norway in 1951

Most Games
As well as having the joint most wins, October 11th is also the most frequent date for Irish internationals, with ten games having their anniversary on that date.

Monthly Records
Ireland have played internationals in every month of the year, except January, but a representative side played the West German Olympic XI on the 4th January 1972 in Dalymount Park. Despite the dates with the highest number of wins all coming in the second half of the year, May is the month with the highest number of wins, with 36 wins from 112 games, and also one of three months with 25 losses along with October and June

Ireland have played on 198 dates across the year, including a single game on February 29 - a draw against Croatia in 2012 that also featured a marriage proposal at half time.
